SPECIAL GUEST: EJ MISSY (SIN)

From an avid clubber who spent most of her weekends soaking up the electronic dance music scene in Singapore and it’s region since the early ‘90s, to quite a lovely beat-serving jock behind the console (not to mention one of the most sought-after homegrown imprint Singapore has to offer), it seems to be yet another natural progression for this self-taught dj, whose influences includes Dennis Ferrer, John Tejada, Radioslave, Brodinski, Angela Flame, Henrik Schwarz, Sascha Funke and Joris Voorn amongst others. Through her versatility she eventually developed an impeccable taste in electronic music, digitally coutoured mostly for the discerning audience. This deckmistress who is the only local female dj so far who’ve scored the JUICE DJ Quest Champion title since it’s inception in 2002, breathes by the dj consoles, meddling diligently with downtempos, bar grooves, house, deep house, tech house, minimal techno and techno. Also hailed as the BEST NEW DJ 2008 by Juice Singapore, EJ is considered to be one of the scene’s fastest player to secure dj slots in the most respectable music venues in Singapore within the first year of her entrance into the scene. A weekly residency at the morrocan-inspired Balcony Bar lead her to making regular appearances at Q Bar Singapore, coccolatte, dempseyHOUSE, LooF, ZOUK and various Cannery outlets, namely; PURE@Ministry of Sound, Amino, Aurum by The Clinic, and notably, Kandi Bar by Hed Kandi; pushing the eclecticness of bar grooves, the myriad spectrums of House and the beautiful simplicity of minimal. 2008 alone has seen her nuking the clubland and packing the dancefloor in Kuala Lumpur and Colombo while embarking on a 1-year residency with the esteemed Supperclub Singapore. There, she also ran a weekly night called theloveaffair, promoting the deep, dark, driving, techy and minimal beats of house and techno, with premier dj line-ups joining forces with her. Despite still being an underground sound for the masses in this part of the globe, she managed to garner a dedicated following of hedonistic heads tuned to her particular brand of minimal frequencies. 2009 saw her returning to Colombo and invading the music meccas in Bali. In a span of 3 nights, she was churning out sunset vibes at the legendary Ku De Ta, got housey with the house kittens at The Living Room and dropping a barrage of minimal techno and tech house for the dancefloor footsoliders at the infamous Doublesixx club. EJ is admittedy not Magda and she does NOT make the tea. But she can make you cry with her deep, yet soulful melody-tinged styling, all while maintaining her diversity without compromising on her signature attitude and fluent technique, either behind the console of a bar or a dancefloor. The future already sees her expanding her music versatility while spreading her wings beyond this lil red dot, one minimal techno beat at a time.

Add Image

Known as the '3 deck master', 'the human ableton' and 'the machine', Ben Sims had his first decks at age ten. Schooled on mix tapes by the likes of Bambaata, DJ Cheese and Froggy, and with his musical roots in reggae, funk, disco, electro, rare groove and hip-hop, by his mid teens he was spinning at after-hours 'blues' houses and a few years later came the acid house explosion with pirate radio and clubs. Skip forward over 15 years and you’ll find he’s one of the UK’s biggest techno exports and a much in demand producer.

Ben has been involved in running 9 labels, a couple of which are on hold at present (Theory, Killabite, Hardgroove, Native, Ingoma, Symbolism, Assembly, KB Records inc, Split Music), each one with a distinctive sound, ranging from hardgroovin’ and funk driven techno and house that is the trademark of his DJ sets, via tribal, to melodic electronica. In a genre that propagates sound-a-likes, Ben Sims productions have gained widespread attention and feature regularly in the boxes of his own personal heroes like Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson, Jeff Mills and Rolando, whilst also attracting crossover appeal from the likes of Carl Cox etc. He has remixed Jeff Mills, Green Velvet, Blake Baxter, DJ Funk, Marco Bailey, Chris Liebing, Adam Beyer plus many more and has had his tracks and remixes featured on mix cds by Robert Hood, Francois Kevorkian, DJ Rush, Joey Beltram, Dave Clarke, Umek, Luke Slater, Sven Vath, Richie Hawtin and hundreds more.

The past 10 years have seen Ben constantly touring and tearing up dancefloors at legendary clubs & parties like- Liquid room, Tokyo, Sonar, Barcelona, Limelight. NYC, Rex, Paris, Zouk, Singapore, I love Techno, Gent, Tresor, Berlin, Awakenings, Amsterdam and Atomic jam, Birmingham plus hundreds of others with his tight, energetic and skilful brand of 3 deck wizardry. Add this to his ventures into promoting, Retro-vert and Split parties both running successfully for a number of years and now the new BALANCE night causing a storm in London, a regular internet radio show presented with Alex plus the FREQUENCY 7 dex, fx and laptop shows with Birmingham's Surgeon, pushing the boundaries of DJ sets or as part of the ESSEX RASCALS with Tony Anderson, Mark Broom and Paul Mac dropping everything from House to Funk to Disco, The illusive classics remixing duo KILLA PRODUCTIONS again with Paul Mac also now touring and playing together, plans for a disco re-edit project AND a solo monthly internet radio show starting very soon. There’s certainly no sign of things slowly down any time for soon.

SPECIAL GUEST: REMUTE (GER)

Being one of the most uncompromising and surprising acts, remixers, DJs and liveperformers in our scene, Remute is delivering his third album!

Just one year after his highly acclaimed work "Grand Glam" (which contained crowd-pleasing hits like "Zuendli" or "Lampuca for Everyone"), "The Orgy" takes the next step towards bringing back honest and raw TECHNO-sound, always with a small glimpse of disco, chicago-house and adventurous electronica.

Nowadays Remute's twisted tracks are receiving heavy support by "Oldschool-Rave" -circles like for example Richie Hawtin or Berghain-resident Len Faki as well as by "NuRave"-protagonists like Erol Alkan or Boys Noize, for this reason specialised journalists are describing his style as the long-awaited link between these two worlds!

The master himself calls it simply True Rave.

"NOW THE FUN BEGINS!", he says...
