This week we have a special guest, TERENCE C (MALAYSIA)
WHEN: Bi-monthly on Saturday
DATE: 10TH OCTOBER 2009
SPECIAL GUEST: TERENCE C (MALAYSIA)
At the tender age of 11, Terence was moved by what he saw on the silver screen during a showing of a little old movie called Breakin’. Though Ozone & Turbo’s lockin’ and poppin’ impressed him, he was totally blown away by what the guys behind the decks were doing to spur those two on. Thus was planted the seed of inspiration for his life work.
Terence began his actual DJ’ing career in 1998 at Echo KL, where he started learning the ropes under the tutelage of veteran DJ Chris Doss. Progressing rapidly, he then notched up further residencies in KL at Cubeat and Globar, where his renowned seven-hour sets on weekends earned him praise from many as the “hardest-working DJ in town”.
He continued his career ascendancy by becoming a resident of the legendary Movement in 2000. Still looked upon as one of the pivotal clubs in the KL dance scene. He has also performed in nearly every club in KL, including The Backroom, Emporium, Nouvo, and Atmosphere, as well as venturing out regionally to such clubs as Lush in Singapore and Liquid Club in Ho Chi Minh City. He has played alongside with many internationally acclaimed DJs performing in Southeast Asia, including Fatboy Slim, Pete Tong, Chicane, Omid 16b, Matthew Dekay, John Digweed and Anthony Pappa, to name just a paltry few.
2004 saw Terence joining the newest local clubbing institution Zouk KL, spreading his inimitable brand of music during the club’s regular “Push” nights while doubling up as a VJ as well. However his most significant achievement thus far came a year later when he teamed up with fellow artists Callen Tham and Didjital to form the Altered Image collective and they went on to grab the coveted 2005 Heineken Thirst Malaysia championship by a considerable margin.
The natural progression will see Terence take on the helm of full time VJ in the newly re-launched Zouk. The plethora of LED screens, plasma screens, lighting effects will allow Terence to take the crowds on a visual journey along with the DJs. Rumour has it that he is even developing sets as a DVJ incorporating music and visuals at the same time. All we can say is watch this space!
